Origin: I made up this word back around late 2003. It was inspired by the September 26, 2003 FUN show where Eri was picked from Sakura Gumi as the member most likely to communicate with aliens. Upon realizing Eri’s weird character I simply used the combining wordplay of “Eri” and “aliens” to describe anything weird by Eri. The word soon caught on on various English Morning Musume forums I participated in and eventually the word also became known for people who are fans of Eri, especially the weird ones (like me, LoL).

Although Eri’s erien habits have died down during her later years in Momusu, she will always be their Ichiban Hen (weird) member.

BTW, the Featured Image came from a short comic I drew of myself and my fantasy encounter with Eri. LoL It was obviously drawn during her short hair phase.
